Psalms 79

This is a complaint and lament of the Church when severely afflicted; in which, while the faithful mourn their miserable and, in a sense, undeserved calamities, and accuse their enemies of cruelty, they admit that, in another sense, they have been justly chastised, and humbly turn to divine mercy. Their confidence in receiving aid is mainly based on the fact that they see God’s dishonor connected with their suffering, since the ungodly, in oppressing the Church, blaspheme His sacred name.
