Psalms 87

Psalm 87 is a song of praise for the city of God, Zion, which the Lord has established on His holy mountains. It presents Zion not just as a physical location but as the spiritual home where God’s presence resides and where His people are gathered from all nations. The psalm highlights that God loves the gates of Zion and values it above all other dwellings of Jacob, showing His special favor and blessing. Nations once considered foreigners—such as Rahab (Egypt) and Babylon—are seen as citizens of this city, revealing God’s inclusive plan to bring diverse peoples into His kingdom. The psalm ends with the joyful declaration that “all my springs are in you,” signifying that all life, joy, and refreshment come from God’s dwelling. It serves as a reminder that true belonging, identity, and vitality are found in the presence of the Lord.
