Psalms 78
To grasp many ideas within a small scope, it should be noted that this psalm contains two main themes. First, it declares how God selected a Church from the descendants of Abraham, how tenderly and graciously He cared for it, how remarkably He led it out of Egypt, and how varied the blessings He bestowed upon it were. Second, the Jews, who were greatly indebted to Him for the immense blessings He had given them, are reproached for having repeatedly and treacherously revolted against such a generous father. His immeasurable goodness is clearly shown, not only in His initial adoption of them but also in His continued efforts to counter the rebellion of such a deceitful and stubborn people. Additionally, there is a reference to the renewal of God’s grace, analogous to a second election, when He chose David from the tribe of Judah to rule over the kingdom of Israel.
