Psalms 55, 56, and 57

Psalm 55 - Many interpreters believe this psalm pertains to Absalom's conspiracy that led to David's exile. However, it appears to have been composed during a time when David faced severe peril due to Saul's persecutions. It serves as a heartfelt prayer filled with intense distress, appealing for God's compassion through every possible argument. After expressing his sorrows and voicing his requests, the Psalmist reflects on the hope of deliverance and offers thanks to God as if he has already received it.

Psalm 56 - In this psalm, David combines his complaints with prayer, finding relief for his troubled mind through contemplation of God's mercy. He seeks divine assistance amid the persecutions inflicted by Saul and other adversaries, confidently expressing his hope for success. However, it is also plausible that this psalm was written after he had endured the dangers mentioned, serving as a thanksgiving for a deliverance he had already experienced.

Psalm 57 - This psalm is divided into two sections. Initially, David expresses the anxiety he experienced, seeking Divine help against Saul and his adversaries. In the second half, he confidently anticipates deliverance and encourages his soul to engage in praise.
