Psalm 47

The text was certainly intended for the designated holy assemblies, as can be easily inferred from the entire poem. It is possible that David composed it and gave it to the Levites to be sung before the temple was built, while the ark still resided in the tabernacle. Regardless of its author, the poem encourages not only the Israelites but also all nations to believe in the one true God.

It primarily emphasizes the favor that God graciously bestowed upon the descendants of Abraham, suggesting that salvation for the entire world would emerge from this lineage. Additionally, it contains a prophecy about the future kingdom of Christ. The poem illustrates that the glory which was then evident in the physical sanctuary will eventually spread widely, as God will allow the rays of His grace to shine into distant lands, uniting kings and nations with the children of Abraham.
