A victorious priesthood (4:14)

These three elements of supremacy, humanity, and deity were essential aspects of his victorious work. No other priest could have achieved such a victory over the power of sin, death, and the devil. The fact that he has passed through the heavens and ‘sat down at the right hand of God’ means that his saving work is finished. It happened ‘once for all’ (9:26), a favorite phrase in this letter. The ascension of Christ was not just the dramatic end to the earthly ministry of Jesus. It was God’s visible act of vindication, exaltation, and glorification. The fight is over. The victory has been won. The work is complete. In the course of their duty, the various high priests of Jewish history passed through the veil in the material tabernacle or temple, but Jesus has passed into the presence of God himself.
